Art is the Next Peace works collaboratively with K -12 schools, non-profits and communities to make meaningful art in a safe and affirming environment. This project successfully uses art to promote non-violent resolutions to problems, such as gangs, bullying, and domestic violence - with a goal of connecting communities and building positive healthy attitudes. The project includes site and internet exhibitions with many forms of art: mural painting, photography, silk painting, poetry, music, video, 3-D, and new media from students, community and professional artists.
Thanks for showing your support for our mission to build community and celebrate diversity through the arts. Your tax-deductible gift will contribute to our success in presenting the annual New Year's Eve First Night Festival of the Arts as well as year-round arts education programs offered to local children and teens through the First Night ArtWorks! program.
Gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations help First Night Monterey to accomplish its unique work of building community and celebrating diversity through the arts. As a private, nonprofit cultural organization, we depend upon your generosity, not only to produce our citywide arts festival on New Year's Eve, but also to conduct related community-based arts education programs for Monterey County kids all year long. First Night Monterey's Art is the Next Peace: Connecting Communities was featured in the California Arts Council news.

First Night Monterey brings together people of all ages, races and backgrounds. Last year, nearly 30,000 people sampled jazz, folk and classical music. There were venues that introduced our community to a variety of dance styles, supplied opportunities to design and build masks, hats, and puppets. Each year participants see themselves, each other, and our community in a brand new way ... In an atmosphere electric with joy and hope.
Your support is needed now more than ever as we expand our outreach workshops, extend our celebration 'footprint', and plan for the next First Night celebration.
Thanks to the leadership and generosity of our past donors and sponsors, First Night Monterey has become a treasured family tradition. The New Year's Eve arts celebration showcases hundreds of talented visual and performing artists. Through our Outreach workshop programs, hundreds of young people work together under the guidance of professional artists to produce larger-than-life puppets, murals, original poetry, and more.
